Our refurbishment process – in summary

The primary components of our PillowPure process are:

Step 1

Kill the live bed bugs and bed bug eggs in your down or down/feather mix fill by subjecting the entire, original pillow (pillow shell and the internal fill) to a dry heat process.

You'll find this only at WHITE KNIGHT pillowCARE.

Step 2

Kill the live dust mites and dust mite eggs in your down or down/feather mix fill by subjecting the entire, original pillow (pillow shell and the internal fill) to a dry heat process.

You'll find this only at WHITE KNIGHT pillowCARE.

Step 3

Significantly denature (or deactivate) the Der f 1/Der p 1 protein allergens produced by the dust mite feces in your fill by subjecting the entire, original pillow (pillow shell and the internal fill) to a dry heat process.

You'll find this only at WHITE KNIGHT pillowCARE.

Step 4

Extract the down and feather dust, dead skin cells, dead bed bugs, dead dust mites and denatured (deactivated) dust mite feces from your fill using a sifting process.

You'll find this only at WHITE KNIGHT pillowCARE.

And you'll find this only at WHITE KNIGHT pillowCARE because our dry heat process (Steps 1 and 2) has already killed the live bed bugs and bed bug eggs and live dust mites and dust mite eggs in your fill.

At WHITE KNIGHT pillowCARE, we use pillow machines -- similar to the machines used by ordinary pillow cleaning services -- to tumble and fluff your down and feather fill. During the course of tumbling your fill, down and feather dust, dead skin cells, dead bed bugs, dead dust mites and denatured (deactivated) dust mite feces is sifted out through a screen at the bottom of the tumbling chamber.

It's important to understand that these pillow machines cannot kill and sift out live bed bugs and live dust mites. They can only sift out dead bed bugs and dead dust mites

That's why we say that you'll only find this step at WHITE KNIGHT pillowCARE.

Step 5

Denature (or deactivate) the bacterial and viral pathogens (bacteria and viruses that can cause disease) in your fill using a germicidal ultraviolet irradiation (UV-C) light process, not an ozone-emitting ultraviolet irradiation (UV-V) light process.

You'll find this only at WHITE KNIGHT pillowCARE.

And you'll find this only at WHITE KNIGHT pillowCARE because our pillow machines -- similar to the machines used by ordinary pillow cleaning services -- have been modified to use germicidal ultraviolet irradiation (UV-C) light instead of the ozone-emitting ultraviolet irradiation (UV-V) light that comes standard in these machines.

There is a huge difference between UV-C light and UV-V light.

Here's a very brief explanation (without getting too technical):

The UV wave spectrum includes four bands: UV-A (315 to 400 nm), UV-B (280 to 315 nm), UV-C (200 to 280 nm) and UV-V (10 to 200 nm). Germicidal ultraviolet irradiation (UV-C) light is far superior to ozone-emitting ultraviolet irradiation (UV-V) light in denaturing (or deactivating) bacterial and viral pathogens. And that's because UV-C light penetrates the cells of live bed bugs and live dust mites, destroying the cell's DNA so the live bed bugs and dust mites die when they attempt to replicate. UV-C light only destroys the chemicals in the cells of bed bugs and dust mites that are already dead.

In other words, UV-C light has no impact on live bed bugs and live dust mites in your fill.

At WHITE KNIGHT pillowCARE, we deliver a double death to live bed bugs and dust mites

We kill live bed bugs and dust mites in Step 1 and 2 with a dry heat process; then we kill any potentially still living bed bugs and dust mites with germicidal ultraviolet irradiation (UV-C) light in Step 5.

That's why we say that you'll only find this step at WHITE KNIGHT pillowCARE.

Step 6

Insert the de-bed bugged, de-dust mited, de-dusted, cleaned, sanitized and deodorized fill into a brand new pillow shell that’s certified by 3 different science-driven testing organizations:

  • Certified to be a true 300 thread count**

By the International Down and Feather Laboratory (Salt Lake City, Utah)

  • Certified to be down proof, feather proof and breathable

By the International Down and Feather Laboratory (Salt Lake City, Utah)
  • Certified to be a 100% barrier to the transfer of Der f 1/Der p 1 protein allergens in dust mite feces

By Airmid Health Group (Dublin, Ireland)
  • Certified to be virtually free of over 300 chemicals typically used in the cotton fabric manufacturing process

    By Testex (Zurich, Switzerland).

You'll find this only at WHITE KNIGHT pillowCARE.

** Our pillow shells are 300 thread count and certified to be down and feather proof. We use the .    word "true" because many "high thread count" fabrics are not down and feather proof.

We'll explain: Thread count is defined as the number of threads per square inch of fabric. Just      because a fabric has
high thread count doesn't mean that it's necessarily down and feather      proof.

Consumers sometimes mistakenly equate "high thread count" to "high quality". And fabric      manufacturers know this. So they twist two pieces of thread into one thread and claim that their      180 thread count fabric is "360 thread count."

Looking for confirmation? Just walk through the bedding aisle in any discount store and you're      sure to find a 4 piece set of king sheets and cases labelled "600 thread count" for $60.00 or      less!

Compare our summary process to the detailed process offered by any other dry cleaner, linen store or "pillow refurbishment" service

We've just provided you with a summary of our 6 step Pillow Pure process.

By contrast, here's the detailed process offered by a typical dry cleaner:

Our expert technicians refresh the goose down feathers, as with time they age they disintegrate creating dust that triggers allergies. Our method of cleaning removes the dust, refills the pillows with fresh goose down feathers, if needed and replaces the tickling (pillow lining) for you. This process cleans and revitalizes your down pillows, restoring them to their original fullness and comfort.

At WHITE KNIGHT pillowCARE, we know down. At a typical dry cleaner, their "expert technicians" don't even know the difference between down and feathers!

Our refurbishment process is dry and green

Our entire PillowPure process is dry and green.

Unlike dry cleaners, linen stores and other “pillow refurbishment” services, we use no water, wet or dry steam, infrared heat, dry cleaning solvents or fluids, chemicals, detergents, fragrances, moldicides, fungicides, pesticides or miticides.

When it comes to cleaning, renovating, refurbishing and refreshing your substantially down and down/feather mix pillows, think of us as America’s Pillow Doctor ®.

We don’t your wash your substantially down or down/feather mix bed pillows in water nor do we dry clean them in dry cleaning solvents

There are 2 basic approaches to “cleaning” your substantially down and down/feather mix bed pillows:

  • Follow the manufacturer’s care label attached to the pillow. Typically, these labels suggest “machine wash and dry” or “dry clean”
  • Follow “advise” offered by a Helpful Heloise on the internet on how to wash and dry your substantially down and down/feather mix pillows at home or at a laundromat. Typically, this advice is offered by someone has washed their substantially down and/or down/feather mix pillows and claim that they came out “just fine.”

At WHITE KNIGHT pillowCARE, we don’t advocate “washing” or “dry cleaning”.

And, yes, we know we’re biased.

But for very sound reasons.

So, before you decide to “wash” or “dry clean” your fine down and down/feather bed pillows, we recommend that you read these WHITE KNIGHT position papers:

"From start to finish my experience with White Knight/Rave FabriCare was outstanding. I sent an assortment of 10 old/too soft down pillows for cleaning and restoration. Together with the specialist, I was able to determine my preferred fill level and pillow sizes and the results were excellent. Throughout the process, White Knight/Rave FabriCare was extremely responsive and helpful and I now have what can only be described as "brand new" down pillows for a fraction of the cost of new ones. The new covers are beautiful and each pillow came back in a zippered protective storage bag. Top notch service with top notch results."
